I often find myself going back to the ol' moniker of "It doesn't take long does it?". Here we are in the wake of 2014 - day 1 - I was enjoying dinner at the house when I heard this weird metallic grinding sound. My dogs all shot up like new grass at dawn. A lil confused by the sound, I decided to look outside for anything new.
The night sky was filled with bright lights, and soon to follow sirens. A pretty bad wreck happened just yards from my driveway. I know its a little voyeuristic to capture photographs of an accident scene, then again photographing anything can be viewed as voyueristic, given enough time and content.
Medics and firefighters were lightning fast at responding, they were doing the usual damage control and helping to the best of their ability. By this time I had walked to the mailbox to grab a few snapshots. I inched a lil more line of sight to not get the lights so much.
Let me throw this in there before the wrong impression is made. Even though I made myself more line of sight with the accident, I did not leave my property to get closer or interfere with the accident scene. This is where I believe the idea of morbid voyeurism tends to get too far. I did not seek out this accident, the accident happened in front of my house.
All that said, I snapped a few pics, until I realized that the driver was still in the truck, as noted by the fireman. He was talking loudly to whoever was in that truck. I thought about it, knew that was my sign, to go ahead an go back in. I'll leave with only footprints and digital memories. I tip my hat to local law enforcement, and firefighters, and EMT for being quick on the scene and being quick to clean up the mess.
I hope 2014 brings lots of great memories, and provide those small moments to capture them.
Most of all stay safe out there.
